The First Trailer for Zombieland: Double Tap Released

The first trailer for Zombieland: Double Tap is here, a decade after the original was released!

When clicking on the trailer for the sequel to the cult hit Zombieland, I thought I’d know what to expect. After all, the original took, at the time, a saturated genre and injected a sense of whimsy that pretty much no one expected. Many films since tried to do the same to varying degrees of success.

Therefore, obviously, the trailer for Zombieland: Double Tap kicks off listing the academy award credentials of the main cast.

And while it does quickly go back to hitting the nostalgia beats, complete with action montage, the trailer doesn’t give off the impression that the movie’s lost sight of its legacy. It seems that, at its core, it’s still a movie about regular people, finding their way in a regular zombie apocalypse.

“We find our heroes from the last movie ten years later, as they’re just moving into the White House. Tallahassee has a saying, ‘Go big, or go home.’ They kind of took it to heart and went for kind of the biggest and best home they could find,” director Ruben Fleischer said.

The rules are still cited (and broken), humanity is still generally replaced by shambling corpses and, presumably, Tallahassee is still keeping an eye out for twinkies (you can’t really eat just one).

Hopefully, this will turn out to be the kind of sequel that improves upon the original, instead of, uhh… not improving.

In addition to the return of Stone, Eisenberg, Harrelson and Breslin (and, not seen in the trailer, Bill Murray), Zombieland: Double Tap brings in some new hitters such as Rosario Dawson (Death Proof, Marvel Netflix), Luke Wilson (Dear Eleanor, Ridiculous Six) and Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley, Entanglement).

Oh, and the zombies have evolved.

“The one that’s causing the big threat are the T-800 zombies, that are stronger, faster, harder to kill,” Fleischer said.
