Wizards of the Coast is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition by re-releasing Tyranny of Dragons, the adventure that kicked off D&D 5e back in 2014.
Originally comprising two hardcover adventures – Hoard of the Dragon Queen and The Rise of Tiamat, the new edition of Tyranny of Dragons features a new cover designed by Hydro74 and is set to hit hobby stores October 22.
“Dungeons & Dragons means a lot to millions of people and we’re excited to celebrate everything the community has achieved in the five years since we launched fifth edition. Tyranny of Dragons was an iconic adventure out of the gate, and we’ve made it even more memorable by putting it all under a new cover featuring the visage of Tiamat in Hydro74’s distinctive style,” said D&D VP Nathan Stewart.
Tyranny of Dragons is a 224-page adventure taking players from level 1 all the way to level 16 – if they survive that long, as they contend against the Cult of the Dragon’s plans to bring their queen Tiamat to the Forgotten Realms.
This volume combines the two previous titles into one book, updating the adventure by incorporating feedback to smooth out the curve for new players. It also includes extra resources for players and dungeon masters that were only previously available online, as well as never-before-seen concept art.
As we said, D&D 5e was released in 2014 and its seen quite a few campaigns over the past five years – many of which reference the classic campaigns from the previous editions. Curse of Strahd brought back one of the most iconic Dungeons & Dragons villains of all time, while Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage sent players back to Undermountain.
Tiamat is one of the most powerful foes in the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons and the story of thwarting her cult can make for an incredible campaign.
