Star Trek: Picard and Two Picard Prequels

Jean-Luc Picard is making a comeback sometime next year in his very own, self-titled series, the upcoming Star Trek: Picard. But before the debut of the show, you’ll get to catch up on what the character has been up to, thanks to the two Picard prequels that are to be published later this year.

The first one is a three part IDW comic book series Star Trek: Picard-Countdown, set to be published on November 2019. It is written by Mike Johnson and Picard supervising producer Kirsten Beyer. In a press release, CBS said that Countdown- which is not to be confused with the 2009 IDW series Star Trek: Countdown (which featured post-Nemesis Picard) – will “center around a single mission that would change the life of Picard.”

Say what you will about Star Trek, but Picard is badass.

A novel, The Last Best Hope, will be released after the Countdown concludes. Written by Uma McCormack, the novel leads directly into the show and introduces a number of new characters, paving the way to get to know them better, before the series. It’ll be published on February next year, by Simon & Schuster. Uma McCormack has previously written eight Star Trek tie-in novels.

Star Trek tie-ins have quite an impressive history. There have been plenty of books and comics that have expanded upon the Next Generation series.

Star Trek veterans such as Brent Spiner as Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager, Jonathan Frakes as Will Riker, and Marine Sirtis as Deanna Troi are also going to be there in the series.

These two projects is going to help in filling the 20 year gap between the end of Star Trek: Nemesis and the beginning of Picard and meanwhile, will serve useful to fans to while away as they wait for the series.
