The “Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers” online petition reaches 1.57 million people a week after the last episode.
Most of us that followed religiously HBO’s Game of Thrones were left with a sour taste of dissapointment after the final season. I confess, waiting for Martin to finish the books for so many years turned me away from the book series. I fact, up until the GoT season 8, I liked the series more than the books.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss managed to fuck it up for me with their illogical conclusion, fake and forced character tension and development. But, I will not get into that – too soon, might tear up.
I guess we should ask ourselves a couple of questions now. Are we right to demand the remake of GoT season 8 at the first place?
Sophie Turner, the Queen in the North it seems, says that fans should be ashamed for asking that. Apparently it is disrespectful of all the effort put in by her and all the other people working on the show.
Another interesting question is whether her statement reflects her own arrogance and disrespect towards her fans and supporters? You are an actress, Sophie, an artist and entertainer – you failed to entertain your fans and your art is criticized. That is how it goes.
Now, will they actually remake GoT season 8 due to the petition? Well, of course not. We can’t expect that, there are no do-overs.
But, perhaps the petition and its response from around the globe will remind arrogant producers and actors and directors and all those people that the fans are those who passes the ultimate judgement on their work.
No, Sophie, season 8 was not awesome and we are allowed to voice our opinions. It left us feeling disappointed and sad. And fuck you for telling us that we should feel ashamed.
